Tow Car of the Year 2010

Overall Winner 2010: Skoda Superb Estate 2.0 TDI elegance

Skoda Superb Estate 2.0 TDI Elegance

The clever folk at Skoda can pat themselves on the back... again! We’re beginning to run out of adjectives to describe just how good the Superb really is.

The model has claimed the Caravan Club’s overall prize to add to its bulging trophy cabinet – the Estate and hatch dominated their respective classes at our annual New Car Awards, and the Superb also won our Family Car World Cup road test earlier this year (Issue 1,102).

While the Skoda badge doesn’t carry the same kudos as some of its premium rivals, this practical machine makes perfect sense. The 2.0-litre diesel tested here is incredibly frugal, and combined economy of 48.7mpg is hard to fault. When it comes to value for money, it is head and shoulders above the competition.

In well equipped Elegance trim, you get luxuries such as a multifunction steering wheel, xenon headlights, heated front seats and full leather upholstery as standard. The overall quality of the car’s interior also deserves special praise, as it puts many category rivals to shame. And the Superb is a dream to drive, too.

The estate’s brilliant on-road behaviour is still apparent when towing, and the composure, refinement and punchy performance make it a fantastic hauler. The brand’s fine dealers and great reputation for customer service also inspire confidence. One thing’s for sure; it will take something special to topple the Superb next year…

Special thanks to:
