Updated Ferrari F12 'M' to get extra power & tech

Spy shots show facelifted Ferrari F12 M, likely to come out in 2016 with more grunt, chassis tweaks and cabin tech upgrades

Ferrari F12 2016 spies

With the new 488 GTB and the ever-present LaFerrari hogging the limelight at Maranello, Ferrari's front-engined F12 Berlinetta has taken a bit of a back seat lately. But the 730bhp supercar looks set to get a number of revisions for the 2016 model year, which could include a power hike and dynamic tweaks.

The addition of an 'M' badge to the car (standing for Modificata) is likely, as previous Ferraris with front-mounted V12's, like the 456 and 575, have been gifted the moniker to denote the upgrades.

A prototype model spotted testing in Italy had only minor body camouflage, suggesting that styling tweaks for next year's car will be pretty minimal. The rear wheelarches and the boot lid are covered up, but the overall shape behind the wrapping seems very familiar.

Ferrari's focus will instead be on improving the driving experience further, and the 6.3-litre V12 could be in for some fettling to improve power, torque and efficiency. We're not sure how much more than 730bhp anyone could really need, but if any company is willing to find out, it's this one.

Elsewhere, we can expect chassis revisions to improve drivability, handling and ride comfort, while the cabin will undergo some material and tech updates. It may also recieve Apple's Carplay connectivity tech to bring it into line with the California T and four-seat FF
