New 88mpg Fiesta ECOnetic is most fuel-efficient Fiesta ever

Updated Ford Fiesta ECOnetic claims 88.3mpg, making it the most economical Fiesta ever

The Ford Fiesta ECOnetic has been updated with a new 94bhp 1.5-litre diesel engine – helping make it the most fuel-efficient Fiesta ever.

Optimised combustion chamber design, cutting-edge turbocharging and new fuel injection technology has helped Ford drop CO2 emissions by 16g/km to 82g/km since 2008 – an improvment of 3g/km over the outgoing 1.6-litre TDCi.

The addition of start-stop, smart regenerative charging and low rolling resistance tyres have also helped boost fuel economy to 88.3mpg, along with enhanced aerodynamics and optimised gearing. All this means the Fiesta is now second only to the Peugeot 208 BlueHDi, for running costs in the supermini class.

Not content with a super-frugal Fiesta, Ford has also introduced a B-MAX MPV with sub-100g/km CO2 emissions. The tweaked 74bhp 1.5 TDCi is now Euro6 compliant and will return 74.3mpg and emit 98g/km of CO2 – making it exempt from annual road tax.

Ford Ka Black and White special editions revealed

Elsewhere, changes have also been made to the Ka range, including a pair of special editions and added kit for the top-spec Titanium model.

The Ka Black and Ka White feature 16-inch black alloy wheels, unique seat trim and a leather steering wheel. The gearlever, steering wheel spoke, centre console and air-vent surrounds are all finished in Pearl White, with unique double-stitched floor mats. Titanium cars now come with heated leather seats, a panoramic roof and rear parking sensors.

Finally, Ford has added its 138bhp 1.0-litre EcoBoost engine to the standard Fiesta Zetec S. Previously only available on the Red and Black Edition cars, the most powerful 1.0-litre EcoBoost returns 62.8mpg and emits 104g/km of CO2.
