Multiple wins for Auto Express at Newspress Awards

The annual Newspress Awards saw us take home individual and group wins

The Newspress Awards is the UK’s biggest celebration of automotive journalism and the sixth annual event was held at Bicester Heritage in Oxfordshire last night. Numerous Auto Express staff members were recognised for their hard work, receiving wins in multiple categories.

Auto Express was named Best Consumer Publication and Senior Test Editor Dean Gibson was on hand to collect the award. There was a special lifetime achievement award to honour Auto Express columnist Mike Rutherford, who helped start the title back in 1988 and has gone on to write more than 1,400 columns.

Commenting on the award, Mike said: "Genuinely, I had no idea it was coming and was shocked to receive it - in my 40th year as a full-time motoring journalist and broadcaster. I can't thank Newspress and its judging panel enough."

Individual honours went to Richard Ingram, editor of our sister title Driving Electric, who won the Best EV Writer Award, while Driving Electric’s Ellis Hyde was named Automotive Journalist Rising Star.

Deputy consumer and features editor Tristan Shale-Hester was nominated for the Automotive Consumer Journalist award and Dean Gibson received a nomination for Commercial Vehicle Writer of the year.

Newspress’ Managing Director, Tim Barfoot, commented on the event: “Congratulations to all the winners and many thanks to our judging panel who had a tough job because the standard was extraordinarily high.”

Before the awards ceremony kicked off, journalists were given the opportunity to showcase their cars, which included a Jeep Cherokee from our Editor-in-Chief Steve Fowler and a Nissan 350Z from Senior Test Editor, Dean Gibson.
