New Nissan Formula E car revealed for 2023 season

The new e-4ORCE 04 marks the fifth season of Formula E racing for Nissan

Nissan’s new Formula E race car has been unveiled, marking a shift from the sport’s second-generation cars to the “Gen3 Era”. The Japanese firm will also compete in the 2023 season of Formula E with its own team, ditching French company DAMS as a partner.

The ninth season of the Formula E championship kicks off on 14 January 2023 at the Mexico City ePrix - the first time the season opener has been held there. The Nissan e.dams team finished ninth out of 11 constructors last season and Nissan will be hoping for more success in the coming year.

As with the rest of the cars on the Formula E grid, the Nissan entry packs 40 per cent more power than its predecessor and maxes out at 200mph. "Formula E represents the pinnacle of EV technology, and we are confident this upcoming, next-generation series will deliver innovation and excitement on and off the track," says Guillaume Cartier, Nissan Chairperson.

The driver lineup for Nissan has also changed for 2023. Maximillian Gunther and Sebastien Buemi are replaced with Norman Nato and Sacha Fenestraz. Nissan’s preference of using the number 23 continues with Fenestraz (in Japanese ‘ni’ means two and ‘san’ means three), Nato gets the number 17 car.

Nato spoke on the new car’s reveal, “I really like the new livery, it’s different and will definitely stand out on track. The cherry blossom design is a great touch. This season is also a new beginning for me, and one I’m extremely excited for.”

Nissan will be getting to grips with the new Gen3 car at pre-season testing in Valencia on 13-16 December. A record 17 races are planned for the 2023 season, with the London E-Prix rounding off the year on the 29th and 30th July.
