New Volvo V60 Cross Country: UK prices and specs revealed

Rugged and raised V60 is on sale in Britain now, with first deliveries early in 2019

The new Volvo V60 Cross Country has gone on sale in Britain, priced from £38,270.

A chunky, SUV-inspired estate car that’ll compete against the Audi A4 Allroad and Volkswagen Passat Alltrack, the new V60 Cross Country is the latest in a long line of rugged Volvo estates.

That £38,270 price covers what is at launch a single model, with first deliveries scheduled for the first quarter of 2019. The V60 Cross Country comes equipped with Volvo's D4 2.0-litre turbodiesel engine producing 187bhp and 400Nm torque. Volvo claims fuel economy of 55.4mpg and CO2 emissions of 135g/km.

Mild hybrid and plug-in hybrid versions of the V60 Cross Country will follow at a later date.

Based on the standard V60, the Cross Country gets several 4x4 inspired touches, most significant of which is a 60mm increase in ride height. There’s a revised front grille insert that mimics the larger V90 Cross Country, extra plastic body cladding lines the lower edges of the bumpers and sills, and wheel arch extensions complete the look.

A more commanding view of the road aside, the Cross Country is pretty much identical to the standard V60 on the inside. That means there’s a clutter-free dash with a portrait-orientated nine-inch touchscreen infotainment system with standard navigation, a 10-speaker surround sound audio setup, dual zone climate control and Volvo's On Call 24 hour roadside asistance also features. Out back, the boot volume measures 529-litres.

To help the V60 Cross Country cope with rougher terrain than the standard V60, every variant will feature all-wheel drive as standard. More specialised off road tech, like hill descent control and a specific off-road mode in the drive select, also features as standard on every version.

Elsewhere, the V60 Cross Country rides on 18-inch wheels and gets LED headlights with adaptive high beam as standard too.

All versions will feature both Volvo’s City Safety system which can detect pedestrians, cyclists and large animals, new Oncoming Collision Mitigation, which can detect imminent accidents with other vehicles, apply the brakes and prepare the car for impact, and the semi-autonomous Pilot Assist system, which combines adaptive cruise control with steering assist on motorway style roads.
