Honda tweaks the Civic for 2011

British-built Civic gets refreshed inside and out for the new year at no extra cost.

14th October 2010

The Honda Civic is sharpening up its act. From next year, the Focus rival gets a new front grille which looks more like the one fitted to the now-deceased Type-R model, and all models can now be had in a special Ionized Bronze paint finish.

Honda has also increased the availability of alloy wheels across the range. New 16-inch rims feature on the Civic five-door range on the 1.4-litre SE and Si, plus 1.8-litre SE trim levels. The five-door 1.8-litre Si now comes with 17-inch wheels as standard.

The Civic Type S ‘warm’ hatch gets new colour-coded sideskirts and revised 16-inch alloys.

On the inside, SE and ES trims get half fabric and Alcantara interiors, while the Si is now half leather and Alcantara with heated front seats.

Production for the 2011 Honda Civic begins at the Swindon manufacturing plant in November 2010 with prices starting from £13,995 for the 1.4 Type S.

Make the interior less plasticky

And I might be more interested. The Civic has the cheapest feeling interior of pretty much all its rivals and the gimmicky multi-level dashboard can't disguise this.

Yes, make interior less plasticky but also make every other car in the segment more Civicy.

We can discuss the interior quality until the cows come home. It may feel cheap, but it'll still feel the same 3 years down the line. Many Europeans will have started falling apart waaay before then. Except the Golf perhaps, but I wouldn't buy a coffin yet, I'm still young.

This car is best avoided

This car is undoubtedly poor compared to the previous generation. Come on Honda, make sure that the next model is more of a true Honda- i.e- a drivers car and less of a cheap gimmick like the current one.

Still haven't bothered to sort that stupid rear window ?

And still no rear wiper???

Not a chance of considering one..........

Honda Civic type Arghhhhhh.

The car looked dated when it was launched, and still does.
What a shame that the Japanese produce some of the most realiable cars, and the most boring.

By toycollector on 19 October, 2010, 10:19am

Agree with PDTBurge about that stupid rear window also...

the stupid so called intelligent automatic gear box needs sorting. May be ok on flat roads but up hills and round steep corners it is complete cr-p or at least the one on my jazz is!

This is a refresh?

Hmm. Studied the photos, but had to read all the text to find out what the facelift involved.

Incidentally, toycollector/chickenfeed, whilst it is true that the Japanese, especially Honda, make the most reliable cars, there is (independent) evidence that the Civic bucks this trend and is one of the most unreliable cars on sale.

I think the Civics dash is great ! What on earth are you talking about? Much prefer it to the VW/Audi/Seat/Skoda (all the same of course) as its different, not just plain and boring, anyone can do plain and boring.

The exterior is far and away the best looking in its segment, all the others look exactly the same, with the exception of the focus, which is fat, cumbersome and incredibly boring.
Although saying that, the Seat Leon isn't that offensive, but alas suffers from a VW interior.

Not too many in favour of the Civic. So unless you drive one you don't know what you are missing. At least Honda initiate they never have to imitate as so many European manufacturersdo.

a parade of gimmicks

Gimmicky horrible dash, ghastly 'hidden' rear doors, gruesome arrow shaped door handles, nasty horizontal stripe of plastic at the rear - I so hate the appearance of this car. Yes it probably drives well, and at least from the drivers seat it is only the dash you have to see.

Japanese cars - Boring, are they??

Can I pick up on comment above above from 'toy collector', who suggests Japanese cars are boring really. Mmmmm lets see - Nissan GTR. Nissan 370Z, Honda Civic, Integra Type R, Honda S2000, Subaru Impreza WRX/STi, Subaru Forester STi, Mazda RX8/ MX5 Mazda 6 MPS, Toyota MR2, Celica and Supra. Boring cars are they - I think not. If you want to be put to sleep why not buy a car from one of the following non Japanese car makers - VW, Renault, Vauxhall, Ford, Audi - are you asleep yet ZZZZZZZ

Civic design lesson

1. Detractors of the Civic design define themselves as being design ignorant and used to talking out of their tailpipes.
2. The Civic dash, although elaborate and in need of a gentle tone down, is glorious and informative compared to the vast swathe of cars with those pathetic little Noddy Bins as command and control centres.
3. The rear seat fold up design is brilliantly practical and unique to Honda.
4. The diesel's speed/economy figures are the best of any medium family saloon for drivers that want shove as well as economy.
5. Honda reliability is a massive bonus with every Civic, especially for people who actually buy cars instead of just talking about them.
