Pictures of the new 217bhp Skoda Octavia vRS have been leaked online

The first grainy pictures of the next Skoda Octavia vRS have emerged on a Czech car forum. The vRS images appear to be screen grabs from a configurator or similar website, and show what looks like a virtual rendering of the next performance flagship Octavia.

The images reveal that the new Octavia vRS will feature a similar approach to the existing car, with subtle styling additions that include more aggressive bumpers with LED daytime running lights at the front, and trapezoidal twin exhausts at the rear.

Propeller-style five-spoke alloys are also shown, covering brakes which now feature red-painted calipers, while there is a small wing on the boot lid.

Under the bonnet is expected to be the latest EA888 2.0-litre turbo petrol engine that will also be fitted to the VW Golf GTI, which produces 217bhp – up from the 197bhp in the current Octavia vRS.

A 2.0-litre diesel version is also expected, along with a choice of saloon and estate bodystyles, and a choice of six-speed manual or seven-speed DSG gearboxes.

The standard Skoda Octavia hatch is due to arrive in the UK in March, the estate follows in May, while the first vRS cars are due to arrive in the UK in July, priced from around £22,000.

The current VRS has red calipers and LED daytime running lights. No change there! Great journalism.....

Keep the price right

It's not a bad looking car when you compare it with other Octavia derivatives wherein Skoda designers saved hours and relied so heavily on grafting.
All in all not a bad car. It has its appeal. Skoda's pricing strategy will determine if it's a sales success or flop.

Always loved the vRS model, very fast and a great stealth car. Always been a great seller too, not because of its good pricing but because it's a genuinely brilliant car. My 2010 model will be replaced by this!

I'll have it in blue, or vRS green!
I love this car, it's such an unsung hero, yet still cooler than a Golf, and to be honest I'm glad it leaked so early, the new normal Octavia doesn't really look that special.

At a time where manufacturers are making smaller powerful engines VW plump for a 2 litre granted turbo unit? :S

Handsome Stealthmobile. Yes please.

They will be opting for a 2 litre rather than a smaller unit because smaller capacity engines start running out of puff once you get into high speeds.
