Run by the RAC’s driver training arm, this advanced course is made up of three parts. Firstly, you’ll get an assessment session with an instructor. This takes two hours, costs £48 and highlights where you’re going wrong.
Next, ‘development sessions’ are needed, each lasting an hour and costing £25 – budget for about six hours. You will be taught about risks and spotting hazards.
The test comprises a vehicle and eyesight check, plus a road session. Grades are silver, gold and platinum, and to hold on to their qualification, platinum drivers must resit the test every three years; gold and silver retakes are required every two years.
