Audi A4

Stock up on the suntan lotion! Audi has added a top-value S line model to its drop-top A4 range, intended to provide the looks of the flagship S4 at a manageable price.

When it comes to making classy cabrios, Audi is king. While the S4 drop-top is out of the reach of many buyers, S line versions offer some of its appeal at a fraction of the cost. With several engine variants available, it will be the best option for bargain-hunting buyers who want to be seen this summer.

Stock up on the suntan lotion! Audi has added a top-value S line model to its drop-top A4 range, intended to provide the looks of the flagship S4 at a manageable price.

From the outside, the four-seater cabriolet offers plenty of chrome trim and imposing 18-inch alloy wheels, plus subtle S line badges, and it looks sharp with its fabric hood folded down.

Our test model was equipped with Audi's trusty 1.8-litre turbocharged unit, which produces 161bhp. The 0-60mph sprint takes 9.4 seconds, although the four-cylinder provides adequate performance for most buyers. Part of the S line package is firmer suspension, but this does little to improve the Cabriolet's handling, and will make the ride too hard for some buyers.

Inside, customers get sports seats, part-leather trim and a three-spoke steering wheel. At GBP26,975, the S line costs GBP1,950 more than the equivalent entry-level model. However, with a price that's a massive GBP13,970 less than the similarly designed S4, this trim will be tempting for style-conscious buyers.
