Audi e-tron recalled over risk of fire

31 of the first Audi e-trons in the UK are thought to be affected, but no fires have been reported by SUV’s early adopters

Audi has confirmed that the all-electric e-tron SUV has been recalled with a “small number of e-trons that have been delivered to customers” here in the UK affected.

The brand says that an “issue” with a component within the charging system of the car has been identified. Auto Express understands that Audi AG is recalling cars as the fault carries a minor chance of fire during a recharge cycle, but that no such cases of this happening has been reported by customers.

The full statement from Audi reads: “Audi UK is aware of an issue involving a component within the charging system on a small number of Audi e-trons that have been delivered to customers. We are currently in the process of contacting these owners to recall their vehicle and rectify the issue.

a total of 31 affected cars are currently in circulation with customers in the UK, and we’re in the process of contacting all these owners to ask them to make an appointment to have the necessary remedial work carried out. Owners will of course be offered a temporary replacement vehicle by Audi UK."

The brand’s Tesla Model X and Jaguar I-Pace fighter is the first all-electric car capable of recharging at 150kW, owing to a complex thermal management system running throughout the car’s skateboard chassis.

The recall comes just a matter of weeks after market launch here in the UK, and has been issued in other key Audi markets such as the United States, too.

We’ll update our story with further updates as they come.
