Best MPVs for Motability 2025/2026

MPVs offer some of the best accessibility, but this does tend to come at a higher cost

Multi-purpose vehicles (MPVs) might not be as plentiful as hatchbacks or SUVs on the Motability scheme, but these people carriers are a great option if you need lots of space, family-friendly features and value for money.

Due to their boxy shape, MPVs are ideal if you regularly carry bulky cargo or need accessibility conversions to meet your specific requirements, such as Wheelchair Accessible Vehicles.

You currently can’t find any MPVs with nil advance payment, but there are some really good options if you’re willing to spend a little bit of money.

Thanks to advances in technology, many modern MPVs, even the van-based ones, are far better to drive and much more luxurious to sit in than their predecessors.

Our road testers have driven every MPV you can buy right now, and these are the best MPVs on Motability.

Dacia Jogger

  • Model: Jogger 1.0 TCe Extreme 5dr
  • PIP weekly cost: total mobility allowance
  • Advance payment: £995
  • Fuel type: petrol
  • Gearbox: manual

Most of the MPVs and people carriers available via Motability require a chunky advanced payment, but the budget-friendly Dacia Jogger is reasonably affordable.

Dacia has become known as providing value for money, and that’s exactly what the Jogger offers. While it isn’t the largest car on this list, it has a huge amount of cabin space and a generous selection of on-board tech as standard. Running costs are also on the low side.

While the Jogger is a seven-seater car, space in the third row is quite tight and best suited for children or short journeys for adults. The third row of seats do fold flat so when you aren’t carrying people, there’s plenty of space for luggage.

Citroen e-Berlingo/Vauxhall Combo Life Electric /Peugeot E-Rifter

  • Model: multiple options
  • PIP weekly cost: total weekly allowance
  • Advance payment: from £1,499
  • Fuel type: electric
  • Gearbox: automatic

If you want plenty of space but zero emissions, these Stellantis electric van-based MPVs are some of the most affordable options on the Motability scheme.

There are very few differences between the three cars, including the weekly cost and advance payments, so whichever make or model you choose they all offer the same key qualities.

There’s up to 213 miles of battery range, low costs, acres of interior space and the option of five or seven seats. All three vans are suitable for wheelchair accessibility conversion, too.

All cars come available with petrol or diesel engines which is great if electric power isn’t suitable for you, although the downside is that you might need to pay a higher advanced payment as a result.

Volkswagen Caddy Maxi

  • Model: Caddy Maxi 2.0 TDI Life 5dr [Assistance Pack]
  • PIP weekly cost: total mobility allowance
  • Advance payment: £3,499
  • Fuel type: diesel
  • Gearbox: automatic

If you cover lots of miles every year, chances are you’ll have a diesel car near the top of your shopping list. If that’s the case then the Volkswagen Caddy Maxi could be an ideal candidate.

The Caddy Maxi is a very spacious family car that’s powered by VW’s highly acclaimed TDI engine. Most diesel MPVs available on Motability require an advanced payment of over £3,000, but with the Caddy Maxi you’ll get enough plush materials and kit to help hide this car’s roots in a small van.

The Assistance Pack on this model adds front and rear parking sensors, a rear-view camera, and even a reverse parking aid which gives the car the ability to reverse into a parking space for you.

If you don’t need a diesel but like the sound of the Caddy Maxi, it is also available with a petrol engine and a lower advanced payment starting from £1,999 depending on the trim level.

Ford Tourneo Connect

  • Model: Tourneo Connect 1.5 EcoBoost 115 Titanium 5dr Auto
  • PIP weekly cost: total mobility allowance
  • Advance payment: £3,495
  • Fuel type: petrol
  • Gearbox: automatic

If the Ford Tourneo Connect looks familiar, that’s because it’s based on the Ford Transit Connect. But that’s not all, these models also share some DNA with the Volkswagen Caddy

The result is a spacious car that feels very durable  — although this does mean it can’t really be described as luxurious. The EcoBoost petrol engine is economical to run, though, and you’ll be able to carry plenty of cargo and passengers with room to spare.

Volkswagen Touran

  • Model: Touran 1.5 TSI EVO R-Line 5dr DSG
  • PIP weekly cost: total mobility cost
  • Advance payment: £4,499
  • Fuel type: petrol
  • Gearbox: automatic

So far we’ve covered a selection of van-based or budget-orientated models, but if you fancy something which is a little more plush then look no further than the Volkswagen Touran.

While the Touran isn’t the most desirable car in the world, it is incredibly practical for its size and genuinely comfortable to drive.

Parking and navigating tight streets is simple thanks to its great all-round visibility, large side mirrors, parking sensors and reversing camera. As you’d expect from a Volkswagen passenger car, the interior is also full of soft-touch materials and is well screwed together.

The Touran is only available as a seven-seater, but unlike in the Dacia Jogger, the third row of seats has enough headroom and space for adults if you slide the middle seats forward a little. When not in use, the third row folds completely flat to reveal a very large boot area.
