Safest executive car: BMW 5 Series
The BMW 5 Series is the safest car in Euro NCAP's Executive car class by quite some margin, beating the new Maserati Ghibli to the top spot in every category.
The 5 Series scored particularly highly for Safety Assist, but a top socre in the adult safety category and solid results in the child safety and pedestrian safety areas mean it's the safest car in its class.
BMW fits six airbags and stability control as standard, and offers further safety options including £1,330 adaptive cruise control, a £995 head-up display and £500 lane departure warning.
A night-vision package is also available, with headlamps that can automatically identify pedestrians and highlight them with a separate beam of light. This feature, however, comes at a premium of £1,750.
