Hi-tech toys add to your car’s appeal, but some are hard to appreciate without a test drive. 

Take VW’s Park Assist. The self-parking system is an £85 extra on the Golf Match. But in most cases, you’ll park better than a computer. It makes life easier – like a Vauxhall Corsa’s built-in bike rack or a modern estate’s powered tailgate – yet won’t add much sell-on value.
