Everyone loves a bargain, and to get a good deal on a new car you usually have to haggle. But lately, manufacturers will do the work for you. Log on to any maker’s website, and you’ll find an area marked ‘offers’.

This will list finance deals, discounts and incentives on servicing, part-exchanges and options. The current buzzword in showrooms is VAT, with some firms offering to pay the new 20 per cent levy for you.
