Mercedes Concept Coupe SUV targets BMW X6

Mercedes tackles BMW X6 with coupe version of ML-Class, revealed here in concept form ahead of the Beijing show

Mercedes X6 rival

Mercedes is adding some style to its SUV line-up - the Concept Coupe SUV previews a production car likely to be badged MLC and set to rival the BMW X6 from 2015. This single official image was revealed by Mercedes CEO Dr Dieter Zetsche at the Annual Shareholder's Meeting of Daimler AG, although the car will make its public debut at the Beijing Motor Show later this month.

At this point technical details on the new concept are few and far between, although at the meeting Zetsche said: "With the Concept Coupé SUV we aim to secure new customers by opening up new segments for Mercedes-Benz. We see a great deal of potential for Mercedes-Benz in the combination of coupé and SUV. We will be officially unveiling the Concept Coupé SUV in just under two weeks at the Beijing Auto Show."

An official Mercedes release also stated that "the sportily styled coupé study with the added value of an SUV provides a realistic glimpse of a series-production vehicle expected next year, which will boast very dynamic handling."

As you can see in the picture the wide front grille, narrow headlights and converging creases on the flanks pick up neatly from the GLA-class. The roofline, which plunges dramatically towards the rear of the car, is the talking point here though.

We'll be able to bring you more information and a full gallery of pictures when the Concept Coupe SUV makes it debut in China.
