Goodyear UltraGrip Performance 3 review

The Goodyear is a pretty solid all-rounder, although it did leave a lot to be desired during our dry handling test

The first of the big names, the Goodyear scored two outright wins and a couple of podiums but had to settle for sixth. It was down in the mid-field in the crucial straight- line wet-braking test, 2m off the pace, but its other wet results were impressive.

It ranked third on the wet circle and fourth on the wet lap, demonstrating an impressive mastery of the conditions. It delivered strong bite at low speed and easily controlled adjustability at high speed, making it capable, exploitable and accurate. First and third for aquaplaning cemented a solid wet performance.

It impressed on the snow circuit, too, where it was fastest. It took a moment to hook into the corners but then delivered strong grip and traction, and it recovered quickly from slides. Sixth in snow braking was nonetheless only less than half a metre off the best – and it was fourth in acceleration, with the top four covered by just a fraction of a second.

Rolling resistance was nothing special, dry braking and refinement were mid-field, while 11th in dry handling was the Goodyear’s worst ranking. It didn’t show any vices, just felt a little dull witted. Overall though, a high-quality tyre.

Blackcircles.com says…

“Rated as ‘superb’, with a 4.7/5 overall rating. Reviewers are pleased with balanced performance, and grip in both the dry and the wet.”
