Falken Eurowinter HS02PRO review

A refined tyre that performs well in all conditions and is good to drive. Decent economy too.

This newer version of a tyre we’ve tested before delivered some great results, notably second for snow traction and refinement; there were decent results in the handling tests too. With just a little more improvement, it could have finished further up the table.

After the high of its snow traction result, the Falken was mid-field for the more important braking test and seventh around the handling circuit where it felt good on the brakes and turned in well. It was easy to read and balance too, but lacked the grip to trouble the leaders.

In the wet it was off the pace in straight-line braking, and trailed the best by a similar margin on the wet circle, yet it was less than a second off the lead around the wet handling circuit. As in the snow, it was dynamically stable but lacked the turn-in bite and mid-corner grip of the best. In aquaplaning it was sixth in a straight line and a distant fifth in the curved test.

It fared better in the dry, within a metre of the best in straight-line braking but fourth around the handling circuit; what it lacked in grip, it more than made up for in willing adjustability. Excellent refinement and decent economy rounded out a good performance.

Blackcircles.com says…

“This tyre is chosen by both 4x4 and hatchback drivers, but we cannot currently comment on its popularity with our customers.”
