At Bruntingthorpe proving ground in Lutterworth, Leicestershire, last week, our road testers wondered why the noise meter readings they recorded for the new BMW M3 were so high. But they didn’t have far to look to find out. An old Vulcan bomber was doing engine tests, and could be heard loud and clear from the far end of the two-mile runway.
