BMW M3 25th birthday gallery

BMW's legendary performance saloon, the M3, has turned 25. We look back at some of the highlights.

The M3 is 25! And to celebrate, Auto Express has gathered together images of some of the best M3s to emerge from M Division’s Munich factory.

The build up to the launch of the M3 in August 1985 began with an announcement from BMW promising a sports car that would punch way above its weight: 200bhp, top speed in excess of 140mph, and capable of a sprint from a standing start to 62mph inside 6.7 seconds.

And it was a sensation when it launched, and has since become the most successful touring car in motorsport history. But which is best? Click through our gallery to see some of our favourites.
