The original Volkswagen Golf hit showrooms an incredible 38 years ago. And the evergreen family hatch is now in its seventh incarnation.
The new model is longer, wider and lower than the car it replaces, so it’s more practical than before and has a more solid, big-car feel. However, a new range of engines and a lighter body mean it’s also more efficient, with better fuel economy and CO2 emissions than ever.
But what’s the new Golf like to drive? And is all the technology anything more than a pricey gimmick? We travelled to Sardinia to experience the all-new Mk7 first hand.
Check out our review and watch the video to hear editor-in-chief Steve Fowler’s thoughts on what Volkswagen hopes will be the new class-leading family hatch.

Volkswagen "MK Ikea class" it has a rigid rear axle so bye bye the nice ride of the VW mk 5 and MK6
it is also a bit bigger and wider, that makes her bulkier in narrow roads and busy cities.
No thanks !
rigid rear axle!?
Well, that's it. iPhone, Golf and Coldplay, most overrated things today. All good but not exciting, and not best in their fields.
Chronosus, what have you drunk today ?!
I beg to differ mate.
