Volkswagen has revealed the new 181bhp Golf GTD, and it can return 67.3mpg and 109g/km of CO2

Volkswagen has revealed another member of the latest Mk7 Golf. The hot diesel GTD model has been unveiled at the Geneva Motor Show, ahead of its arrival in the UK in July.

The Golf GTD is powered by a 2.0-litre  diesel engine with 181bhp and 379Nm of torque. Those figures are 13bhp and 30Nm more than the old model, which also weighs about 32kg more.

As a result, Volkswagen claims the new GTD accelerates from 0-62mph in 7.5 seconds and on to a top speed of 143mph. That’s 0.6 seconds and 5mph better than the outgoing car.

There are even more impressive improvements to fuel economy, though, with the new GTD claiming fuel economy of 67.3mpg and CO2 emissions of 109g/km – that’s 12mpg and 20g/km better.

The GTD gets a new, more aggressive look feature a muscular boykit, 17-inch alloy wheels and a rear spoiler. Two chromed tailpipes sit on one side of the new rear bumper.

The interior gets a GTD steering wheel, tartan cloth sports seats and some stainless steel pedals.

A muscular "boykit"? Is the this some sort of blow-up doll, but not female?

As with all VAG's great headline figures but still average to look at, average to sit in. I'm sure its completely average to drive too, with average levels of equipment at a very average price.

How much then ? I Bet it'll be round the 23k area and by the Time you Stick on Some "desirable" Extras you'll be Looking at nearer to 30k, nö Thanks VAG.

25 k is what this Cost in Germany When converted from Euro's to pounds yep call it 30k When you've specced it up OUCH!!!!!!.

If you want this car, which I do, try what I did previously and buy the Seat Leon. Same chassis, same engine, same brakes, same everything except the dash and body shape but £5000 less.

and a much better looking car too.

Very nice car, and difficult to think of a better all round car for the money. I don't understand why anyone who wants a sports version though would choose an oil burning rattler........ wait for the GTI.

+1

and depreciates faster than the Golf would making your "saving" pretty small in the end. Although the Leon is a decent car the Golf is much smarter and nicer.

Isn't it about time this car was put away or retired, why buy a Golf when you can buy an A3?

And it also panders to conservative tastes a lot more. And badge snobs. Good job it holds it's value when its so overpriced. Very Coldplay. Very beige.
