New special edition Ford Ranger Raptor launched

Ford has dressed-up the Ranger Raptor pick-up with a few exterior design tweaks and a unique interior

This is the new Ford Ranger Raptor special edition. It’s a limited-run version of the pick-up, which features a handful of styling revisions inside and out. Production will be limited to around 700 units for all of Europe, of which roughly 50 will make it to the UK.

Prices are yet to be officially released but, given the nature of the upgrades, we’re expecting a premium of around £1,500 over the standard pick-up, which will push its starting price past the £50,000 mark. First deliveries are expected to arrive in October.

Exterior tweaks over the standard Ranger Raptor include matte black racing stripes, red tow hooks and a matte black finish for the wheel arch extensions, front and rear bumpers, door handles and radiator grille. Buyers also have a choice of three colours, called Performance Blue, Conquer Grey and Frozen White.

Inside, the special edition model features new red stitching on the steering wheel, instrument cowl and door cards, along with leather upholstery and a dedicated Raceway Grey gauge cluster. Like the standard model, there’s also an eight-inch infotainment system.

The special edition Ranger Raptor is mechanically identical to the standard Raptor pick-up, with buyers getting a 150mm wider track, 51mm taller ride height and some uprated FOX shock absorbers. The truck’s gloss black alloy wheels are also shod in General Grabber AT3 all-terrain tyres, which Ford says provide better grip on loose surfaces.

It’s powered by a turbocharged 2.0-litre four-cylinder diesel engine, which produces 210bhp and 500Nm of torque. Power is sent through a 10-speed automatic gearbox to a four-wheel drive system, which is controlled by Ford’s Terrain Management tech.

The drivetrain has dedicated settings for Grass, Gravel and Snow, Mud and Sand, and Rock crawling, as well as an “unbeatable off-road performance” setting called Baja Mode. The latter option dials back the traction control, sharpens the throttle response and loads a more aggressive gearbox map, which holds gears for longer and shifts faster.

There’s also a catchy new tagline for the Ranger Raptor special edition. In addition to the extra equipment, Ford says the pick-up comes with “extra bad-ass as standard.”

To demonstrate this, Ford released a short Spaghetti Western film, called “The Good, the Bad and the Bad-RSE,” in which the special edition Ranger Raptor stars. It was filmed at the same Spanish location as the pick-up’s original launch video from back in 2018, which also happens to be a genuine Spaghetti Western set.
