Hyundai i20 Active pricing announced

Rugged i20 Active hatch starts from £15,225, rest of the i20 range gets new 1.0-litre turbo petrol

Hyundai has announced full pricing and spec details for its 2016 i20 range, including prices for its chunky i20 Active hatch. The Active will be priced from £15,225, while the rest of the range can benefit from the new 1.0-litre turbocharged petrol engine from £14,025.

Billed as a more upmarket Dacia Sandero Stepway rival, the i20 Active is already on sale as the i20 Cross over in India. The European-spec i20 Active gets chunkier bumpers, roof rails, a new rear spoiler and 20mm added to the ride height to give it a more crossover-like stance. It's single trim level gets kit including 17-inch alloys, LED daytime running lights, a DAB radio and rear parking sensors.

Peugeot 208 vs Mazda 2 vs Hyundai i20

The i20 Active is only available with Hyundai's all-new 99bhp three-cylinder 1.0-litre turbo petrol engine, which replaces the outgoing 99bhp 1.4-litre naturally-aspirated unit across the supermini range. In the Active, it claims 58.9mpg combined and emits 110g/km of CO2.

i20 range update

The new 1.0-litre T-GDi engine can also be had in the standard five-door and three-door i20 Coupe. In its most efficient form here, it manages 65.7mpg and emits 99g/km of CO2. It's only available on SE spec and above, and that £14,025 starting is £400 more than the old 1.4.

The i20 also gets a more powerful 118bhp version of the 1.0-litre engine from £15,525, which sees fuel economy drop to 58.9mpg combined. For 2016, the i20 SE also gets a DAB radio as standard, while 'Nav' models get TomTom's Live traffic services.
