New Kia EV2 arrives with 281 miles of range for under £25,000

The new Kia EV2 comes with cute styling and plenty of space, and now competitive pricing adds to the appeal

Kia EV2 - front

The new Kia EV2 is the Korean brand’s smallest electric car to date and it’s just gone on sale in the UK from just £24,245.

Providing Kia with a rival to the Renault 4Peugeot E-2008 and Jeep Avenger, the EV2 offers plenty of choice. The entry-level EV arrives with two battery options, four different trim levels and two different electric motors.

With production of the larger battery Kia EV2 kicking off at a facility in Slovakia in June, Kia expects models fitted with it to get the UK Government’s £3,750 Electric Car Grant. While it waits for confirmation, however, Kia is adding its own £3,750 ‘Reservation Saving’ to sweeten the deal. The small battery EV2 is expected to get the £1,500 grant in time, although for now Kia is also matching that discount with a £1,500 price drop.

That means the EV2 starts from £24,245 in Air trim with a 61kWh battery. That’s more expensive than the most affordable version of the Renault 4, but cheaper than the Ford Puma Gen-E (which gets the larger £3,750 Government electric grant).

In terms of specification, the EV2 Air receives special ‘Air’ interior and exterior styling, chrome accents, black side sills, manual seat adjustment, heated front seats and 16-inch wheels.

Sitting above Air in the line-up is the ‘First Edition’ launch model, which is the only version to get the ‘standard range’ 42.2kWh battery pack that powers a single electric motor on the front axle.

The First Edition starts from £26,995 and receives much more kit, with LED adaptive headlights, electric flush-fitting door handles, tinted windows, electric driver’s seat adjustment, custom ambient lighting, an eight-speaker Harman Kardon sound system, a wireless smartphone charger and 18-inch wheels.

At the top of the range are the GT-Line and GT-Line S models, which start at £28,995 and £32,595 respectively, after their Kia Reservation Saving discounts. Both get sportier bumpers front and rear and 19-inch wheels, while the S also comes with a sunroof, ventilated front seats and a power tailgate.

Order books for the EV2 are open now, with first deliveries expected later this year.

If you can’t wait for the EV2, the larger Kia EV3 is available via our Buy A Car service with an average saving of over £3,000.
