Lamborghini Invencible coupe and Auténtica roadster bid farewell to the V12

Lamborghini's two one-off specials are based on the Aventador and arrive just weeks ahead of the supercar’s replacement

Perhaps no other supercar maker can stretch out a car’s lifespan like Lamborghini. The final instalments in the Aventador series have now been revealed as the Invencible coupe and Auténtica roadster.

The Aventador was launched way back in 2011, featuring the second-generation version of Lamborghini’s legendary V12. Lamborghini says the two new bespoke cars will be the last equipped with the V12, thanks to the imminent arrival of the Aventador’s replacement in the next few weeks.

The new Aventador will use a new hybridised V12, but the Invencible coupe and Auténtica roadster feature the familiar 6.5-litre, naturally-aspirated unit, with 769bhp and 720Nm of torque - the same as the LP 780-4 Ultimae. The engine is mated to a seven-speed automatic gearbox with four-wheel drive. Lamborghini hasn’t given performance details but we expect similar numbers to the Ultimae’s 2.8-second 0-62mph time and 211mph top speed.

“The V12 engine is one of the pillars of our history and our marque’s success”, said Stephan Winkelmann, Automobili Lamborghini Chairman and CEO. “As we head towards embracing a new era of hybridization, this is the Lamborghini way of celebrating the naturally aspirated V12 with two one-off vehicles.”

The exterior design has clearly been heavily reworked for both models. Lamborghini says both cars use the same carbon fibre monocoque as the Aventador, with full carbon bodywork. Several of the style tweaks have been influenced by previous Lamborghini models according to the Italian firm.

The bonnet references the track-only Essenza SCV12 with an aggressive front splitter and new struts to provide more efficient air flow. Another track-only Lamborghini, the Gallardo-based Sesto Elemento, influences the huge rear wing of the Invencible and apparently the “unique aeronautical style” of the Murcielago-based Reventon has also been used.

Lamborghini is known to like hexagons in its design language and on both cars we can see triple hexagonal rear light clusters combined with a central triple hexagonal exhaust system.

“We have created two one-off cars with their own unique character, inspired by track days and the high-octane circuit environment", Mitja Borkert, Automobili Lamborghini Head of Design says of the new Invencible coupe and Auténtica roadster.

The Invencible coupe is painted in ‘Rosso Efesto’, with the sills and doorframes finished in carbon fibre. The Auténtica uses ‘Grigio Titans’ paint with detailing finished in Matt Black and a ‘Giallo Auge’ yellow livery. These colours are carried over to the interiors of their respective models as well, with the Invencible getting red leather seats and the Auténtica’s upholstery receiving yellow stitching.

Pricing hasn’t been revealed, but given that the 350-unit Ultimae started from £342,000, these two bespoke Lamborghinis probably have a price tag well over £1m.
