Goodyear UltraGrip Performance 3 review

A consistently excellent tyre that delivers in all conditions and is great to drive. Highly recommended.

A brilliant overall performance that included five outright wins earned the UltraGrip second place. It was impressive in all three elements, but particularly strong in the snow, where it set the standard for traction and braking and posted the third fastest lap time, too. Despite being a second a lap off the pace of the quickest tyre, it led in terms of feel, with progressive handling and quick recovery from slides that inspired confidence.

It was also outstanding in the wet, setting the standard in both straight and curved aquaplaning and the crucial wet braking test, where it stopped almost 0.5m sooner than the second-placed tyre. The Goodyear tyre was third in wet cornering, only a fraction off the pace, and a very close second on the wet handling circuit where, once again, its feel and dynamics impressed the testers. The UltraGrip turned in decisively, was wonderfully precise, and quick to recover – a superb performance. 

It may have been ‘only’ third in dry braking and sixth on lap time but, once again, it wasn’t far off the pace and delivered lovely feel, being composed, biddable and wonderfully precise. Economy and refinement were reasonable.
