Goodyear UltraGrip Performance 3 review

Strong scores across all disciplines see the Goodyear finish in second place

A superb set of results across all disciplines earned the Goodyear a solid second place. It didn’t win any of the handling and grip tests, but scored multiple second spots and, impressively, was never lower than third place. It also had the lowest rolling resistance, making it the most economical tyre, and had the lowest cabin noise rating into the bargain.

On the snow, it almost tied for fastest lap, being only a tenth of a second slower, and it was similarly close in braking and traction, almost within touching distance of the best. It was neat and tidy lapping the snow track, readily adjustable and recovering from slides quickly, with good cornering grip and traction. 

It delivered a similarly impressive set of results in the wet, posting second in the crucial wet braking test, just a half metre off the lead, and ending up in second in curved and third in straight aquaplaning. It demonstrated its cornering grip with second on the wet circle and followed that up with another second on the wet circuit, where it was excellent. It was
as if the track was wider on the Goodyear. 

Capping a fine set of results, it posted second best dry braking distance and was equal second fastest around the demanding handling circuit.
