Drivers with older cars, convertibles or pets are all likely to have experienced a build-up of condensation on the inside of their windows. Heavy rain will find its way past worn seals and blocked sunroof drains, and damp dogs will mean the interior will soon get soggy. Left unchecked, it can cause mould to form on fabrics, corrode components, or even damage electronics.

While dehumidifier pouches might help with milder cases, you’re going to need something more powerful to dry out a car that has had a proper soaking. Electric dehumidifiers are often used in garages storing classics, but are generally too big to use inside a car.

Which is why we were very keen to try the EasyAcc Dehumidifier. It’s designed for smaller spaces, so it will easily fit inside a car’s footwell and would also be perfect for use in a campervan or caravan. 

Because it is mains-powered, you will need access to a plug socket, and according to the manufacturer it can suck up to 1,300ml of water out of the air every day. It is also claimed it can operate effectively in colder weather.

We tried it at an external temperature of 8C inside a sodden Mazda MX-5 and we were initially disappointed, because there was just 220ml in the collector tank after two days of use. The inlet vents also froze up, but the car’s windows were kept mist free. With a warmer ambient temperature, the performance improved quite noticeably. It’s a shame it doesn’t work well in winter when it is needed most, but the EasyAcc could be perfect for drying out after spring showers.
