Sportier new VW Golf SV R-Line confirmed for UK

Volkswagen adds R-Line styling and kit package to its Sportsvan MPV, available to order in mid-2016

VW Golf SV R-Line

It’s stopping short of offering a hot GTI version, but VW has announced a new flagship R-Line package for its Golf SV. The Citroen Picasso rival gets external design upgrades and extra kit, and is expected to add an extra £1,000 to the list price.

A VW spokesperson has confirmed the SV R-Line will be available to order from UK dealers at the start of the summer. Unfortunately, none of the upgrades will allow you to race a Golf R away from the lights with your kids in the back. That’s because the the R-Line is only available with either the 1.4 TSI petrol engine or 2.0 TDI diesel.

Nevertheless, the new spec (based on the existing GT) brings sportier front and rear bumpers, revised air intakes, R-Line logos and sill extensions. Darkened tail-lights, silver roof rails and a chrome exhaust trim complete the look, while 17 or 18-inch alloy wheel designs are also available.

Inside, you’ll get racier microfiber seat upholstery, a multifunction leather sports steering wheel, stainless steel pedals and logoed aluminium sill plates. UK pricing is yet to be confirmed, but it’s more than likely that R-Line spec will start from around £25,750.
