The latest BMW 3 Series Touring estate has been spotted undergoing testing. This disguised example of the new model, designated F31, will offer more space and greater flexibility than its predecessor.
There will be few surprises at the front of the car, as it’s identical to the new BMW 3 Series saloon
. Under the disguise is a rising waistline and BMW’s trademark kink is clear to see in the rear pillars.
The rear windscreen follows the sloping roofline to end above the tail lights, which are sharper edged than the current model, in line with the saloon’s new styling.
The new BMW 3 Series Touring will boast a larger cargo area while offering greater flexibility. Features such as an opening rear windscreen and a 40/20/40 split fold rear seat will be offered.
Trim levels and engines will follow the 3 Series saloon, with the modular platform allowing hybrid versions in the future.
The BMW 3 Series Touring will be revealed at the Paris Motor Show in the autumn, and goes on sale in early 2013.
