Following the unveil of BMW's new performance coupé in Issue 956, the firm has now announced the price - and it's over £8,000 more expensive than its predecessor.
Buyers of the M3 can be assured that BMW has taken every care to make its contender one of the best handling two-door cars money can buy
However, the £50,625 machine comes with a 4.0-litre 414bhp V8 powerplant and supercar-like performance. It's also priced to compete directly with its newest rivals. Audi's saloon-bodied RS4 weighs in at £50,675, while Mercedes' CLK 63 AMG costs a huge £66,305.
Buyers of the M3 can be assured that BMW has taken every care to make its contender one of the best handling two-door cars money can buy. Countless laps have been put in at Germany's famous Nürburgring circuit to give the rear-wheel-drive coupé the ultimate cornering balance. With a 0-62mph time of 4.8 seconds and a 155mph top speed, few buyers will be disappointed with the pace either.
What's more, cutting-edge lightweight engine components have made the new unit 15kg lighter than the old 3.2-litre straight six. Engineers have also fitted Brake Energy Rege-neration and variable valve technology for maximum efficiency, resulting in 22.8mpg combined economy.
The new model will go on sale in the UK in coupé guise in September. A folding hard-top cabriolet and four-door saloon are expected to join the range next year.
