Our previous Best Buy is still a great performer, but the competition has moved on. Its 470-lumen output is a lot of light, yet looks a little lacklustre compared to newer rivals, such as the Ring MAGflex and Laser 6185. Not only is the light less intense than you might expect, the beam pattern – while still good – is narrower than the newcomers’, too. And although you can position the lamp easily with the rear-mounted magnets and hooks, plus a front-to-back hinged base with a strong magnet, all this simply doesn’t compare to the MAGflex’s rotating joint.
