New BMW X5 M Performance Parts range introduced

Styling, interior and data logging accessories all introduced as part of BMW's X5 M Performance Parts package

BMW has revealed a range of performance options for the new X5. The range of interior and exterior accessories will add various sporty touches to the latest version of the brand’s longest-running SUV.

A range of carbon fibre add-ons are offered on the outside. At the front, a pair of lightweight trims that sit either side of the centre air intake are constructed from the lightweight material, and it’s also used for a pair of front winglets on the leading edge of the wheel arch and door mirror caps.

The carbon theme continues at the back, where extra aero arch extensions and a rear diffuser are available in the same material.

Additional M Performance trims are available along the sides; the lower sill edges and ‘hockey stick’ section on the car’s flanks can both be painted in matt black.

There’s a choice of two M Performance wheel and tyre options, each serving a very different purpose. A set of lightweight 22-inch wheels save roughly one kilogram per corner compared to the standard wheels, which BMW says delivers a sharper drive through a reduced unsprung mass.

The other option takes a more rugged approach. New 20-inch rims are wrapped in chunky all-terrain tyres, giving the X5 greater traction off-road. The greater tyre profile should also improve ride quality, too.

Inside, a sports steering wheel offers larger thumb rests than the standard item, and gets silver stitching and a red 12 o’clock stripe. There’s two different styles to choose from: both have alcantara hand grips, but there’s a choice of leather or carbon on the rest of the rim.

Other interior accessories include shift paddles finished in carbon rather than the standard chrome, M Performance floor mats and stainless steel pedals. Further M sport bits include different motifs for the LED door downlights, and there's even a carbon/alcantara case for the X5’s digital display key.

BMW has also introduced a ‘Drive Analyser’ smartphone app which, in combination with an on board diagnostic dongle plugged into the X5’s OBD socket, can provide data logging functions. These include using the phone’s camera to record trips and track routes based on GPS data.

The BMW M Performance parts will all be available to order when the X5 goes on sale in March 2019.
