Three-car garage: used Kia Sportage, Mercedes CLA and Tesla Model S for £45,000
A premium EV, PHEV and family SUV to cover every motoring need for £45k

The Mercedes CLA EV is great, but it isn’t cheap. To fill our imaginary garage, we wanted to cover every aspect of it, so we headed to the Auto Express Buy A Car service to pick one car that’s more practical, another that’s even more stylish and a third that offers an astonishing amount of EV for the money.

Kia Sportage - £16,395
Our first car is a great all-rounder – after all, it was Britain’s second best-selling car in 2025 for good reason. There are cheaper examples of the current Kia Sportage on the Auto Express Find A Car service, but we’ve opted for this one because it has only done 24,000 miles.
It’s easy to see why the Kia is such a common sight here. It’s a great family SUV with a huge 591-litre boot, the reclining rear seats are spacious enough even for tall adults, and they fold in a useful 40:20:40 split.
The details make the Sportage a compelling choice: this car gets an illuminated glovebox, boot netting, parking guidance on the rear-view camera screen and plenty of physical buttons to improve the ergonomics.
If this Kia Sportage was snatched up too quickly for you, there are several more available through Auto Express…

Mercedes CLA - £15,990
Built on the same chassis as the A-Class, the original CLA was Mercedes’ answer to the BMW 2 Series Gran Coupé and Audi A3 saloon. It’s especially good in plug-in hybrid 250 e trim.
There’s a 1.3-litre three-cylinder petrol engine, backed up by a 101bhp electric motor, giving 215bhp and 450Nm of torque. You can run the CLA 250 e solely on its battery too – for a useful 40 miles.
The interior still looks modern and its steering wheel incorporates physical controls that are much better than the touch-sensitive buttons on the new CLA. This 2021 AMG Line Premium’s MBUX infotainment is a joy to use, while other spec includes heated leather seats and voice control functions.
Don’t fancy this specific Mercedes CLA? There are plenty more examples on the Auto Express Buy A Car service…

Tesla Model S - £11,550
Tesla’s game-changing Model S can now be had for just £10,000 – astonishing value, however you look at it. The Model S arrived in 2012, but this facelifted example will be similar to the car that has only recently gone off sale, proving the incredible longevity of Tesla’s executive EV. This 100k-mile 2017 car almost breaches the 300-mile range mark, yet it offers 120kW charging – still a competitive figure.
Add in a 5.5-second 0-62mph time, mile-munching cruising ability and decent overall refinement and you’re on to a winner.
If you’ve missed this Tesla Model S deal then fear not as there’re several Tesla Model S’s available through our Buy A Car service…
