Car Deal of the Day: Hyundai Tucson for £254 a month is a cracking Easter offer

Prices have dipped again for the Hyundai Tucson SUV, meaning a top-spec version with all the bells and whistles can be had for under £255 a month. Families looking for luxury on a shoestring, step this way...
Through the Auto Express Buy A Car service, Embrace Leasing is offering the family favourite for a cool £254.35 a month right now. All that’s needed to get the agreement up and running is an initial payment of £3,320.20.
That initial outlay is a 12-month lump sum, and while it’s reasonable considering the low monthly payment, it might be too much for some. Happily, knocking the initial outlay down to nine months sees it drop by more than £560, with the monthly price only rising to £279.42.
Mileage is capped at 5,000 a year, but a more flexible 8,000 can be had for a little over £18 extra a month.
What’s great about this deal is that it’s for the super-frugal plug-in hybrid – and the range-topping trim, too.
The PHEV uses a 1.6-litre petrol engine mated to an electric motor and a 13.8kWh lithium-ion battery pack. Hyundai claims a pure-electric range of 43 miles, which will likely be more than enough for most families’ school runs – we’d expect at least 30 miles in everyday driving. Petrol and electric motor combined, there’s a chunky 249bhp, giving very decent performance.
Despite its green credentials, the Tucson is one of the more enjoyable small SUVs to drive. Its steering is accurate and there’s tight body control, adding a level of enjoyment that many of its rivals lack.
Ultimate trim, as the name implies, sits at the top of the Tucson range. It gets a range of luxuries, such as leather upholstery, electric seats that are both heated and ventilated, an electric panoramic roof, plus a head-up display and matrix LED headlights.
