McLaren MSO R Coupe and Spider launched by Special Operations

Pair of 679bhp bespoke McLaren supercars unveiled after a collaboration with lucky customer

McLaren Special Operations, the skunk works inside McLaren Automotive, has commissioned the MSO R Coupe and Spider for one lucky customer.

Both the matching MSO R Coupe and Spider are based on the 650S and are the latest creations of the MSO brand, offering bespoke tailoring McLaren’s to individual customers wishing to add their own input into the design.

Power comes from a 3.8-litre twin-turbo V8 featured on the 650S, but with output increased to 679bhp and 700Nm of torque. Performance figures are yet to be revealed.

The cars sport a ’Liquid Silver’ paintjob, with the Coupe finished in satin and the Spider finished in gloss - matching carbon fibre stripes have also been added to both models. Both cars also feature the same twin-element rear wing with front dive planes for further downforce.

MSO’s Visual Carbon Fibre components feature prominently on the pair of MSO Rs and can be picked out on the front bumper, bonnet, fenders and roof scoop. A red pinstripe compliments the front splitter and side skirts as well as MSO R branding dotted around the cars.

The interior features a black Alcantara dashboard with red bucket seats. The IRIS screen and instrument cluster also get a bespoke makeover, with the final touch being a plaque identifying the pair of MSO personal commissions as a unique matched pair.

MSO welcome customers to approach the sub brand with their ideas for a tailor-made McLaren. While you won’t be able to purchase an MSO R in the showroom, you can contact them directly and have your very own personalised supercar for a six-figure sum.
