Updated 2019 Mercedes-AMG GLC 43 range launched

The Mercedes has revamped its GLC 43 performance SUV range, with fresh styling and more power

The Mercedes-AMG GLC 43 and GLC 43 Coupe have been refreshed for 2019 with fresh styling and more power. The updated performance SUVs will reach the UK market later this year, with prices expected to start from around £50,000 for the standard model and £55,000 for the Coupe.

Both variants are powered by a revised version of the twin-turbocharged 3.0-litre V6 petrol engine from the outgoing GLC 43. Torque remains the same at 520Nm, with power rising by 23bhp to 385bhp. As such, both the SUV and the Coupe have a 0–62mph time of 4.9 seconds and an electronically limited top speed of 155mph.

The engine feeds its power through a nine-speed automatic gearbox to a rear-biased four-wheel drive system. Like the old Merdedes-AMG GLC 43, 69 per cent of the engine’s power is sent to the rear axle.

Elsewhere, the GLC 43 comes with self-adjusting air suspension, performance brakes and a double-declutching programme for the automatic gearbox, which promises to deliver faster downshifts and better acceleration. Mercedes’ ubiquitous AMG Dynamics drive mode selector is also fitted as standard.

Styling updates for the GLC range include fresh LED headlights, a new AMG-branded radiator grille and an updated body kit. A set of lightweight 19-inch AMG alloy wheels are also included as standard, although buyers have their choice of a further five wheel styles, ranging in size from 19 to 21 inches.

Inside, buyers get an AMG-branded sports steering wheel, aluminium trim and a pair of sports seats available in either black, red or grey leather upholstery. Mercedes’ MBUX infotainment system also features, comprising a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster,  10.25-inch central touchscreen display and voice control.
