New 2021 Genesis GV70 SUV to go on sale from £39,450

Prices have been revealed for the BMW X3-rivalling Genesis GV70 mid-size SUV

Genesis has confirmed UK prices and specifications for the new GV70 - the brand’s first entrant in the mid-size premium SUV market, and a rival for the likes of the BMW X3, Mercedes GLC and Land Rover Discovery Sport.

It will go on sale in the UK on 1 September and will be offered in three trim levels and with two engines - a petrol and a diesel offering. Prices will start from £39,450 and every version is all-wheel-drive as standard.

The GV70 is based on the same platform as the new G70 saloon. From launch, petrol power is covered by a 2.5-litre turbocharged four-cylinder unit producing 300bhp and sending drive to all four wheels via an eight-speed automatic.

The 2.2-litre four-cylinder diesel uses the same eight-speed gearbox and produces 199bhp, and this is where the £39,450 starting price comes in, for the GV70 in Premium Line trim. The petrol line-up starts from £41,000.

Sport Line and Luxury Line models make up the rest of the range, introducing sportier touches to the GV70 inside and out, and additional standard equipment. Sport Line adds 21-inch alloy wheels, a more aggressive front bumper, dark chrome exterior trim and a larger diameter exhaust system. Inside, the upgrade package features a unique sports steering wheel and a range of carbon fibre trim.

The Genesis GV70’s design follows the same styling language as the G70 saloon, sharing a near-identical triangular radiator grille and kindred quad LED headlamps – a design choice which is echoed at the rear with a set of similarly styled LED tail lights.

Inside, the SUV features a blend of leather upholstery and aluminium trim, which are shaped into a design language inspired by aviation aerodynamics. For example, the trim pieces around the heater controls and the door handles are both designed to look like aircraft wings.

Elsewhere, there’s a pair of large infotainment screens – one mounted atop the dashboard for navigation and media functions and one placed in front of the driver instead of a conventional instruments.

The screens can be controlled using an iDrive-style rotary knob, which is mounted on a high centre console, similar in design to the unit found in the latest Hyundai Tucson. Genesis has also added a customisable interior ambient lighting system and an extra digital panel in the centre console to control the GV70’s heating and ventilation functions.
