All-new Porsche Cayenne Turbo SUV gets 542bhp

Porsche's new Cayenne Turbo breaks cover at Frankfurt, boasting a twin-turbocharged 4.0-litre V8 and a 177mph top speed

Porsche has lifted the lid on the hottest version yet of its latest Cayenne SUV at the Frankfurt Motor Show in the form of the all-new Cayenne Turbo, which is on sale now priced from £99,291.

Under the bonnet, the new Cayenne Turbo takes its engine from the latest Panamera Turbo, boasting a twin-turbocharged 4.0-litre V8 producing 542bhp and 770Nm of torque. Power is sent to all four wheels, but the Cayenne Turbo utilises a conventional eight speed Tiptronic S automatic gearbox over a twin-clutch PDK unit.

Regardless, 0-62mph takes 4.1 seconds, with top speed clocked at 177mph. However, kitting the Cayenne Turbo with the optional Sport Chrono package introduces launch control, slashing the 0-62mph dash to 3.9 seconds.

Underneath the vast body complete with unique, more aggressive Turbo styling tweaks are a set of adaptive dampers mated to a three-chamber air suspension system, which can alter the car’s ride height depending on the terrain. Variable anti-roll bars are present too, using electronics to stiffen the stabilizer bar and reduce body roll.

Given that the regular Cayenne weighs nearly two tonnes, the more powerful Turbo is kitted out with brake discs coated in tungsten carbide – a move Porsche says increases brake life and stopping power. Carbon-ceramic brakes, as ever, make the options list.

Additional braking force is provided by a new active rear wing – the spoiler perched on the top of the rear hatch doubles as an air-brake under heavy braking, while it’s also used to provide extra downforce at speed. Alongside the Turbo exterior makeover consisting 21-inch wheels, wider wheel arches, body coloured bumpers and skirts, plus a new quad-exit exhaust setup, the interior is home to new sports seats and a new steering wheel, both of which are heated as standard.
