Hankook i’cept RS3 W462 review

The Hankook performed well on all three surfaces

The Hankook i’cept RS3 W462 is strong on all surfaces, being excellent in the snow and decent in the wet and dry as well.

Its score card is peppered with first and second places, with first in snow braking backed up by close seconds in acceleration and around the snowy lap. It was a superb tyre to drive between the snow banks, combining reassuring grip with predictable adjustability and quick recovery from slides.

An impressive wet performance was led by second in the key wet-braking test, within touching distance of its standard-setting Continental rival, and there were strong results in both deep-water aquaplaning tests – second in a straight line and third in the curve. A pair of sevenths on the wet circle and around the wet circuit aren’t as bad as they look; it was a close contest on the circle, and while the Hankook was over 1.7 seconds off the pace around the wet lap, it felt great.

It was calmly agile, predictable and precise – all it lacked was outright grip. It then bagged third in dry handling and was fifth in braking. Its rolling resistance was only okay but, overall, this is an outstanding winter tyre.

Blackcircles.com says…

“Commended for the confidence it provides in difficult conditions. Highlighted for its versatility across the year.”
