Skoda ups the ante on the Octavia with hottest version of hatchback and estate ever, packing 242bhp.

Skoda Octavia vRS 245

Skoda will bring its most powerful Octavia ever to this year’s Geneva Motor Show in the form of the Octavia vRS 245 – a new range topper advancing on the power of the standard Octavia vRS. Although the car was revealed as an RS model, UK buyers will get the familiar vRS nameplate.

As the name suggests, the Octavia vRS 245 packs 245 metric horsepower – 242bhp in old money – delivered from a 2.0-litre TSI turbocharged four-cylinder engine. Up to 370Nm of torque is on offer, alongside two gearboxes. A 6-speed manual lines up against a new 7-speed dual clutch automatic transmission, and Skoda claims the Octavia vRS 245 can do 0-62mph in 6.6 seconds, while top speed is electronically limited to 155mph.

Compared to standard Octavias, the vRS 245 sits 14mm lower and it boasts a rear track 38mm wider than its vRS 230 predecessor. A Sport mode on the drive mode selector as well as an electronic limited slip differential are included as standard, while Dynamic Chassis Control is on the options list.

In terms of looks, the vRS 245 gets the sharp new image introduced in the Octavia’s recent facelift with its own distinctive sporty tweaks. The slats on the grille are finished in gloss black, along with honeycomb mesh ait intakes in the front bumper. Full LED adaptive headlights are standard, and it rides on gloss black 19-inch alloy wheels.

The cabin gets all of the goodies introduced in the Octavia’s facelift too, with the option of the large 9.2-inch Columbus navigation and infotainment system. Sports seats finished in black Alcantara are mated to aluminium pedals, alongside ambient LED lighting.

Driver assists are also a big part of the vRS 245 package. Trailer assist, automatic emergency braking with pedestrian detection, blind spot assist as well city emergency braking and adaptive cruise control are all on offer.

The vRS 245 will be available as a hatchback or an estate. UK prices have yet to be revealed, though we should hear more at the Geneva Motor Show next month.
