This isn’t the world’s best-selling MP3 player without good reason. The iPod is the king of simplicity and has the best user interface here by a mile. Music files are a doddle to transfer once you’ve installed the iTunes software on to your computer, and sound quality is superb. It doesn’t handle videos quite as well as rivals, as it strug­gles with some formats. But it can display pictures, has simple games and a contacts book – and looks very cool.
