August International DTV700B

Price: £95 Style: Tablet Screen size: 7-inch Contact: 01920 487700, www.augustint.com

The first of our wildcard entries, the DTV700B isn’t a DVD player but a portable TV which can play media from other inputs like SD cards and USB sticks. Signal quality wasn’t ideal on our countryside test route, but the package’s tricky operation was more of a concern – adjusting the volume is difficult with the touch-activated buttons. Fortunately, there’s a remote, and the screen quality when we played a movie from USB was great. But there’s no carry case or headrest mount, plus there’s only one headphone socket. So while we prefer the cheaper Logik, this is a feature-packed device which we’d happily use to watch and record live TV when parked up.
