Three-car garage: used Genesis G80, Infiniti Q30 and DS 7 for £59,000
This fantastic trio of luxury cars are available through Auto Express, and combined cost as much as the new DS No.8

If you want to stand out from the crowd, the usual cohort of German cars doesn’t quite fit the bill. Sometimes, it’s worthwhile looking at what’s on offer in a French model – such as the chic looks and comfort in DS’ new flagship, the No.8. However, it’s expensive, starting at around £51,000 and rising to almost £70,000, so we thought: what three luxury-oriented cars could you get for the same money as an alternative. Avoiding German options, we found these in the Auto Express marketplace.

Infiniti Q30 - £9,990
First up, we have an Infiniti Q30 at under £10,000. In case you don’t remember, Infiniti was Nissan’s rival for Toyota’s premium brand, Lexus. And if you’re wondering whether you should trust a brand that no longer exists in the UK, don’t worry; the Q30 uses the same platform as the previous-generation Mercedes A-Class and was built in Sunderland.
There were 1.5-litre petrols and 2.2-litre diesels to choose from, but the car we found has the 1.6-litre four-cylinder petrol. Its meaty 156bhp provides a 0-62mph time of 8.9 seconds while still offering a respectable 48.7mpg.
Inside, the Q30 is an absolute button-fest, which we don’t mind because it’s as ergonomic as pretty much anything on sale today. It’s packed full of kit too, with heated front seats, dual-zone climate control, rain-sensing wipers and a sunroof.

DS 7 - £23,215
Sitting below the No.8 in the DS range, the DS 7 is the French firm’s rival to the BMW X1 and Audi Q3 – although it’s pretty large for its class. As a result you get a big, comfortable cabin and a massive 555-litre boot.
Rather than a humdrum family SUV, the DS 7 feels rather special inside because there’s an Alcantara-trimmed dashboard and lots of quirky design details. We found a model in Rivoli trim, so it gets quality design touches along with 19-inch alloy wheels. It’s not the best to drive though, thanks to a slightly firm ride, and it won’t blow you away in a straight-line, but this 2024 example with less than 17,000 miles on the clock looks like a fantastic deal at well under £25,000.

Genesis G80 - £25,600
It’s so hard to break for a new brand to break into the premium car market and although Genesis has some very competitive models, the company hasn’t quite managed it yet. One of those offerings is the G80, which can be had as an EV, but the car we found in our classifieds is the 2.5-litre four-cylinder petrol version.
The engine’s 304bhp will launch the G80 to 62mph in a sprightly 6.3 seconds, but the car’s focus is on comfort rather than performance. Double-glazed windows, supremely soft suspension and something called ‘Ride Preview’ technology – the Genesis scans the road ahead for bumps and adjusts the damping to suit – are evidence of that.
Looks are subjective, but there’s also no denying the G80’s presence. In this grey and chrome combination, it could easily help you play the part of a James Bond bad guy.
If this particular Genesis G80 has already found a new home by the time you get here, you can find plenty more examples available through the Auto Express Buy A Car service...
