Ferrari SP48 Unica unveiled as one-off V8 berlinetta

The Ferrari SP48 Unica is the latest car from the brand’s Special Projects programme, featuring a bespoke body and F8 Tributo power

Ferrari has uncovered its newest one-off supercar commission: the SP48 Unica. Starting with the platform and twin-turbocharged V8 from the F8 Tributo, Ferrari has given the SP48 an entirely bespoke body and an optimised aero package, alongside unique interior finishes. The new car is destined for one of Ferrari’s ‘long-standing clients’, who was closely involved with its creation.

The SP48’s exact powertrain specs haven’t been revealed, but given that it uses the same engine as the F8 Tributo, it probably shares that car’s 710bhp power figure and 770Nm torque output. Ferrari’s series-production coupe uses a 7-speed twin-clutch gearbox and is underpinned by an aluminium platform, both of which are carried over.

The new body was penned by Ferrari’s chief designer Flavio Manzoni, and the SP48 takes the form of an even more eye-catching F8. The front end is dominated by a pair of deep bonnet vents and intricate, perforated lower grilles, with a set of redesigned headlights.

It’s a markedly more aggressive look than the F8, which continues along the flanks with a sharp, scalloped vent to feed air to the V8 motor, along with a bespoke wheel design. Black graphics extend through the middle of the roof to create a ‘double-bubble’ effect, and thanks to a new carbon fibre engine cover, there’s no longer a rear window.

At the rear, the SP48 uses four thin tail light strips - in keeping with other new Ferraris - and an integrated spoiler to control airflow over the tail. For added downforce, there’s a large rear diffuser package featuring twin-exit exhausts.

Ferrari hasn’t released images of the car’s interior, but claims the overall cabin architecture is shared with the F8 Tributo. However, the seats are trimmed in new perforated black Alcantara upholstery with orange accents to mirror the car’s exterior paint. The hexagonal perforations in the SP48’s front grille are reflected on the inside, too, with the pattern appearing in the laser embossed polished sill plates. There’s matte carbon fibre trim as well.

The SP48 joins an extensive line of one-off Ferrari commissions that includes the track-only P80/C and the 512BB-inspired SP12, owned by rock star Eric Clapton.
