Maserati promises 13 new cars in three years including EV and Macan rival

New MC20 supercar leads range revamp with new SUV and all-electric line-up

Maserati CEO Davide Grasso has promised that the company will launch 13 new models in the next three years, seven of which will arrive in 2022.

The newly revealed MC20 supercar will be the first to arrive next year, which will be followed by convertible and all-electric versions of the company’s mid-engined flagship.

But perhaps the biggest news is the upcoming arrival of an SUV to rival the likes of Porsche’s Macan, BMW’s X3 and MercedesGLC. The new D-segment SUV will sit below the Levante in the line-up and should be seen by the end of next year. Judging by sales of the Macan at rival Porsche, it could become Maserati’s biggest seller.

Maserati’s head of global product planning and marketing, Francesco Tonon, hinted that the car would be true to the Maserati DNA of luxury, performance and innovation, while adding a greater dose of practicality than even the Levante has.

Tonon also confirmed that a new GT and Gran Cabrio would be included in the product offensive and would be first to be offered with full electrification.  “Electrification matches well with the Maserati brand DNA,” Tonon told us.

Hybrid versions of the current Ghibli and Levante are also due, while Tonon also said that large saloon cars were an important part of the mix, especially in the Chinese market, hinting that a new Quattroporte is also on the cards.

Tonon also revealed that there’s plenty of room for internal combustion engines in future Maseratis, too, confirming that the new Nettuno 3.0-litre twin-turbo V6 would feature across the range, with modifications for front engine use, due to the mid-engine layout in the MC20.

Technology is also key to Maserati’s future, with Tonon saying that Level 3 autonomous driving features would be available before 2024.
