Peugeot 308

Covers come off 308

The wraps are off Peugeot's 308!

08th May 2007

Last week (Issue 958), we showed you the car wearing a thin disguise during a break in filming at its advertising shoot. And in the current issue (959) we've caught it completely unclothed - and its 207-inspired lines are clear for all to see.

The family car will make its official debut at the Frankfurt Motor Show in September, but you don't have to wait until then to admire its smooth new look. As these shots of its rear show, the newcomer does without a conventional bootlid handle in favour of a remote release. This combines with flush-fitting light clusters to give the 308 a clean appearance. A fashionable diffuser-style rear bumper is also clearly visible.

Buyers will also be able to opt for a sporty three-door model when the hatchback goes on sale next year, while a coupé-cabrio variant and SW estate are also in the pipeline.

The newcomer will offer improved interior quality over the current model, along with increased cabin space. Entry-level variants will start from around £12,500, and the engine line-up will include the 1.6-litre turbocharged engine developed with BMW and used in both the 207 GT and MINI Cooper line-ups.
