New VW Golf interior spied

We take a peak inside the Golf Mk VII to reveal a brand new interior layout.

We've got the inside line on the new Golf! A test mule of the seventh generation car, due in 2013, has been spotted by our eagle eyed spy photographers. And while the exterior was identical to the current car, a look through the windows gives an indication of what the new interior will look like.

The new instrument panel features a large speedometer and rev counter, which also house the fuel and engine temperature gauges in 360-degree readouts. Fuel and temperature levels will be displayed through a string of LED lights, continuing the circular theme. This design frees space for a large trip computer screen between the two main dials.

This instrument panel should be shared between the upcoming seventh generation Golf hatchback, estate, cabrio and Golf Plus. A sporty new four door coupe is also in the pipeline, previewed by the Compact Coupe shown at the Detroit show last year.

Ulrich Hackenburg, VW's chief of development, has previously explained that a new chassis for the Golf will allow engineers to design and utilise a new range of drivetrains, hinting at hybrid and alternative fuel models for the future.

These eco-models will likely utilise technology that VW debuted in its Twin Drive Golf Concept. Powered by a 2.0-litre, 122hp turbodiesel coupled with an 82hp electric motor, the concept car has a combined output of 174hp and is able to travel 30 miles on battery power alone.

Still horrible!!

There is no blander interior than that of VW's. The dials look like something from the 90's without the blue glow!

The switchgear looks cheap and nasty and has no place in a car costing what £15k plus?!

Its come to something when the koreans are putting the germans to shame.

Seriously.... I get sneered at by mates for driving a Bravo until the open the door and see how nice it is inside. Isnt the golf supposed to be the benchmark for the "C" segment? Pure nasty looking. Could've easily put this up on April 1st. I think the new Polo is a better looking car anyway.

Hold On AndyG

Clearly a pre-production finish on the pics as suggested in the text.

Of course a Fiat is nice on the inside... compared to the outside Dave_ie (just kidding!)

No forward step

Altho' obviously pre-production, this doesn't look like much of a step forward to me.
As for a comparison with a Fiat....... you are joking Dave_ie aren't you?

@Dave_ie

I agree with Dave, as I have been driving my Bravo TJet Emotion for nearly 2 years now and its looks cannot be beaten, or surely not by a boring Golf :) Yes, it might not be the most reliable car in the world (still I haven't changed anything in the car, except maybe for the direction box - even if I am not sure they changed it :D ), but it looks just great and it handles surprisingly well. Not to mention i paid 12k E on it, new :P

About the Golf, same old stuff, they took out the climatic controls from Glolf V and fit them into VII with a little extra buttons :D Boring inside out!

Not sure what this show us?

Clearly a mule with bits bodged in from a markV / VI so pretty difficult to make any judgements?

One thing i would say is bin the stupid Audi A4 style speedo which shows 30mph where 5mph is on a normal car and reads up to180mph!

Are you joking ??

Sorry Auto Express, you are a bit late for an April 1st joke because those pictures look as if they have been shot in an old 80`s banger in a scrap yard and for anyone to take them seriously is in it`self a joke

I guess its a 'No News Day'

Sorry, this isn't worthy of the web space AE. Please try harder.

downunder disappointment

It makes no difference whatever VW miserably advertise downunder as their golf gti and polo gti waiting time is close to 1year....

By tay113 on 28 April, 2011, 6:08pm

Agree with craiglife - must have been a no-news day

Sorry these do not deserve to be credited either. Perhaps debited.

No exterior shots?

Oh I forgot...this is a Golf, so the Mark 7 (and 8, and 9....) will all look the same as the current model.
