Order books have opened for the new Volkswagen Golf, with prices starting from £16,825 – £140 less than the previous-generation Golf.
First deliveries of the all-new Golf will begin on 7 January, with buyers able to choose from S, SE and GT trim levels. There’s also the choice of four petrol engines and two diesels.
Petrol engines kick off with the 84bhp 1.2 TSI and a 104bhp version of the same engine, while there’s also a 1.4 TSI with 120bhp and the 1.4 TSI ACT, which not only has 138bhp but also manages 60.1mpg. Diesel engines include a 1.6 TDI with 104bhp and a 148bhp 2.0 TDI.
All Golf models come as standard with seven airbags, ABS and ESP, as well as a colour touchscreen, Bluetooth and air-conditioning. Go for SE trim and you get a city safety system and automatic wipers. GT models get 17-inch alloys, fog lights and front and rear parking sensors, as well as a built-in sat-nav system.
The new Golf GTI and frugal BlueMotion versions will join the line-up during 2013.

Thanks, but no thanks
I felt that AE had become so biased with VW Group products that I stopped subscribing to the magazine. This article just proves it further: It reads like a VW advert to me, but is sold as a leading article of the website!
